The McCabe’s Instrument Promise

Buy a qualifying new stringed instrument from McCabe’s and we’ll help keep it playing right for years. Most new stringed instruments over $100 include unlimited qualifying setup and maintenance visits, plus a 70% trade-up benefit within three years of purchase.

The Fine Print

3-Year Instrument Care + 70% Trade-Up

You can compare prices online. You can’t get three years of McCabe’s care from a warehouse.

When you buy a qualifying new stringed instrument from McCabe’s, we want it to keep playing the way it should. That is why most new stringed instruments over $100 include McCabe’s 3-Year Instrument Care and 70% Trade-Up benefit.

This is one of the reasons to buy your instrument from a real shop, with real people, real benches, real ears, and an alarming number of opinions about action height.

What’s Included

For qualifying instruments, McCabe’s includes:

  • Three years of free setup and maintenance
  • Unlimited qualifying maintenance visits during the 3-year term
  • 70% trade-up value during the 3-year term
  • No shipping cost when you buy in person or pick up from McCabe’s

This benefit is included at no additional charge on qualifying instruments.

Eligible Instruments

This policy applies to new stringed instruments purchased from McCabe’s with a purchase price of more than $100, unless the instrument is marked or sold as excluded.

Eligible instruments may include new guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, banjos, and similar stringed instruments sold by McCabe’s.

This policy applies only to instruments purchased from McCabe’s. It does not apply to instruments purchased elsewhere.

  • Special-order instruments, unless McCabe’s states otherwise in writing
  • Instruments sold “as is”

McCabe’s may identify additional exclusions at the time of sale.

3-Year Instrument Care

For three years from the original purchase date, McCabe’s will provide free qualifying setup and maintenance for eligible instruments.

This care is intended to help keep the instrument playing properly under normal use.

Qualifying setup and maintenance may include:

  • Basic playability checkups
  • Action adjustments
  • Truss rod adjustments, when appropriate
  • Intonation checks or basic intonation adjustment, when appropriate
  • Tuning stability checks
  • General setup evaluation
  • Minor maintenance related to normal playability

Maintenance visits are unlimited during the 3-year term, provided they are reasonable, related to normal instrument care, and within the scope of this policy.

What Instrument Care Does Not Include

McCabe’s 3-Year Instrument Care is not the same as unlimited repair coverage.

Unless McCabe’s states otherwise in writing, this policy does not include:

  • Strings
  • Parts
  • Electronics repair
  • Pickup installation
  • Fret work
  • Nut replacement
  • Saddle replacement
  • Crack repair
  • Bridge repair
  • Neck reset
  • Structural repair
  • Finish repair
  • Cosmetic repair
  • Damage from drops, impact, misuse, neglect, accidents, heat, cold, humidity, dryness, water, pets, cars, airplanes, or other acts of life
  • Damage caused by unauthorized repairs, modifications, or adjustments
  • Work that McCabe’s determines is outside ordinary setup and maintenance

If an instrument needs work outside this policy, McCabe’s may provide a repair estimate.

70% Trade-Up Benefit

During the 3-year term, the original purchaser may trade in a qualifying instrument purchased from McCabe’s and receive trade-up credit equal to 70% of the original instrument purchase price, excluding tax, shipping, delivery, discounts, repairs, accessories, cases, strings, and other charges.

Trade-up credit may be used toward the purchase of another qualifying new stringed instrument from McCabe’s.

The trade-up instrument must be inspected and accepted by McCabe’s before credit is issued.

Trade-Up Conditions

To qualify for the 70% Trade-Up benefit:

  • The instrument must have been purchased new from McCabe’s
  • The instrument must have originally sold for more than $100
  • The trade-up must occur within three years of the original purchase date

  • The instrument must be returned with all required original components
  • The instrument must be in acceptable condition, as determined by McCabe’s
  • The instrument must not have structural damage, major cosmetic damage, missing parts, unauthorized modifications, or damage caused by misuse, neglect, accident, improper storage, heat, cold, humidity, dryness, or water

Trade-up credit has no cash value. It may not be redeemed for cash, refunded, transferred, or applied to prior purchases.

Original Purchaser Only

The McCabe’s Instrument Promise applies only to the original purchaser.

It is not transferable unless McCabe’s agrees otherwise in writing.

Purchase Records

McCabe’s keeps records of instrument purchases and will usually be able to confirm whether an instrument qualifies for the McCabe’s Instrument Promise.

If we cannot locate the original purchase record, we may ask the customer for a receipt, online order confirmation, customer account information, or other reasonable proof of purchase.

Eligibility is based on McCabe’s records and the terms of this policy.

Scheduling Service

Instrument care is provided through McCabe’s repair department and is subject to repair department availability.

Some maintenance may be completed quickly. Other work may require the instrument to be left with McCabe’s.

McCabe’s will make reasonable efforts to complete qualifying maintenance promptly, but completion times are estimates and may vary depending on repair department workload, instrument condition, and the nature of the work.

Manufacturer Warranties

Some instruments may also include a manufacturer warranty.

Manufacturer warranties are separate from the McCabe’s Instrument Promise. Manufacturer warranty terms, coverage, exclusions, and remedies are controlled by the manufacturer.

McCabe’s may help customers understand or pursue manufacturer warranty options where practical, but manufacturer warranty decisions are made by the manufacturer.

Legal Rights

This policy gives eligible customers specific benefits from McCabe’s.

Nothing in this policy limits any non-waivable rights a customer may have under applicable federal, state, or local law.
